Sub teaching is finally underway. I worked last Thursday for 7th grade social studies. I have to say, the 7th graders at Blackhawk Middle renewed my faith in the future of the human race. They could spell. And read. And they worked very hard for a double period trying to figure out the economics of the Granger movement. It's tough stuff, especially when you haven't had any background in supply and demand, monetary policy, and anti-trust laws. They were reading out of 9th grade level textbooks, and it was clearly a 9th, or even 10th, grade worksheet they were trying to sort out. With some explanation, they did very well. Polite kids, too. I actually really enjoyed it.

Friday was the end of the trimester, so high schools weren't in session, and I didn't take a middle school job. Today I was supposed to work at Scott Highlands down in Apple Valley but, believe it or not, they called a snow day. First time in about eleven years, near as I can reckon. It was a good call. The highways are like parking lots, and there was a report of a snow plow in the ditch just south of here. Dad called into work to tell them he'll be late. Like maybe noon or so. Hehe. Looking out my window, the power lines are looking precarious at best, so mom is filling water pitchers in case we lose electricity. Here's hoping we don't, because it's a pain in the rear.
