I remember fondly the days when a choir rehearsal had the power to cure a headache.
I should get to bed early tonight, but chances are that won't happen. Instead I'll take some advil and write a brand spankin' new blog post. This blog has been suffering some serious neglect. But that is no more. I have changed my ways. From here on out I intend to be an impressively prolific blogger. (Insert laughter here.)
So, what do I have to write about, you ask? Surprisingly, my life has gotten relatively (and I do mean relatively) exciting as of late. Relative to the hours (or days, or weeks...) spent lying around doing absolutely nothing that have comprised my life for the past month and a half. Relative to that, recent events have been downright... well, what's a synonym for exciting? Thrilling. Downright thrilling.
First of all, I've spent the past few weeks painting the interior of my grandparents house, save for the kitchen, the master bedroom, and the guest bath. Every other room received a fresh new coat of paint, just barely a different color from what it was before. It was a satisfying project even if the finished product was somewhat unremarkable.
Second, I applied for a job. A real, permanent, full time, complete with salary and benefits job. AVHS, 10th grade, U.S. history. I'm assuming I won't get it, but it can't hurt to apply. And I'm a cheap hire, so you never know. Anyway, I proclaimed, somewhat idealistically in a semi-public setting (ie. in the presence of my mom) this evening that I would make an effort, as a sort of exercise in preparedness, to get on a school-like schedule. If I really wanted to go all out, I'd start getting up at 5 am to exercise and eat a good breakfast in the morning. Now, we all know that's not gonna happen, but I will make an effort regardless.
Those are the two things that are making my life exciting at the moment. And I guess the first one is over, so really it's just the job thing. But I think you have to agree that that can qualify as exciting. Thrilling, even. Maybe.
The only un-thrilling thing is that choir stinks. Mostly the conductor stinks. He's got an ego the size of Montana, and he's not even any good. And he has this utterly infuriating habit of translating everything into English so that the audience "gets it." The latest victims are Bach cantatas 40 and 121. If the audience "gets" anything out of the performance, it's gonna "get" that we sound stupid.
But I guess that's life. And right now, the thrilling things beat the un-thrilling things. So there is reason to be happy.
Have a cluckity cluck cluck day.
